These spark plug boot dust covers are rather poor quality.  Being plastic, they lose their elasticity over time due to the heat of an engine.  So they get stiff, fail to seal, and must be replaced.  They should be made of silicone so that they remain supple and are unaffected by heat.

I don't like this product.  But they are the only game in town.  Nobody makes silicone dust covers for Porsche and VW spark plug boots, so we are stuck with these.
